Monessen’s 125th Anniversary Year Begins

Annual Monessen Founders Day Dinner

Saturday, October 15, 2022  at 5 PM

The annual Monessen Founders Day Dinner will serve as the opening event for Monessen’s upcoming 125th anniversary celebration that will run through 2023.  The dinner will be held at the St. Vincent DePaul Society Building in their Jozwiak Hall on Grand Blvd.  Tickets are $30 each.  Happy hour from 5-6.  Welcome at 6 and dinner at 6:30.  The menu will be roast beef, roast turkey, parmesan potatoes, vegetable, pasta salad, cake and hors d’oeuvres.  

Mezzo Soprano and MHS graduate, Lisa Brovey Kovach will entertain.  She has sung in more that 40 operas with the Pittsburgh Opera and is the past winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society.  She will sing snippets of popular songs over the 125 years of Monessen’s history.  

Guests are encouraged to dress to celebrate the years that end in “2”, such as 1902 (Opening of Pittsburgh Steel), 1912 (Monessen and the Titanic), 1922, 1932 (The Bonus Army marched through Monessen on their way to Wash. DC), 1942 (Monessen soldiers left to fight in WWII), 1952 (First graduation in the “new” million dollar high school), 1962 (Kennedy came to Monessen), 1972 (Monessen’s Diamond Jubilee), etc.

OUR MISSION

The Society shall promote and foster knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of history in general and of the City of Monessen and environs in particular. The objective of this Society shall be to study, collect, and preserve for the City historical records and antiquities relating to the history of Monessen and environs and its people; to preserve items of current events that may have historical interest in the future; to interest and unite the city in a finer public spirit, through a fuller understanding of the traditions and history, both past and in the making, of our city and its neighboring communities.
